Privatbrauerei Zwettl

FILL-UP FOR ALL SENSES

The Zwettl private brewery skillfully showcases its new bottling centre. The view from the visitor’s walkway reveals concentrated productivity – with high-performance wet-glue labelling system from RENNER.

Zwettl invested around 20 million euros in future of the Lower Austrian brewery site. Particularly spectacular is a 23-metre-long pipe bridge between the production hall and the new filling centre. Up to 150,000 litres of beer flow every day through the “beer pipeline” across the road between the two buildings.

IMPRESSIVE VISITOR PLATFORM

Starting this autumn, beer lovers will be able to experience the processes in the new “filling plant” with all their senses from a six-meter-high visitor walkway. From there, after the new KHS filler, a RENNER S1200 can also be seen, through which all beer and soft drink bottles now run at up to 40,000 pieces per hour. “Due to our positive experience as a maintenance and modernization partner, RENNER was the only option remaining for replacement of the old wet glue machine,” says brewmaster Heinz Wasner. “The good supply of spare parts and solution competence were particularly important to us.”

RELAUNCH OF ALL FORMATS

The fifth-generation private brewery from Lower Austria uses exclusively regional ingredients. The high product quality is reflected in numerous awards: in 2024, the premium pilsner “Saphir” was awarded the European Beer Star Award with a Gold medal. Keeping on the same note, the RENNER wet glue machine, which went into operation this summer, ensures a first-class labelling image. All formats were standardized in advance to further increase productivity. “Because we now use the same back label and identical best-before date positions for the laser printer on every bottle, many changeover processes are no longer necessary,” explains Wasner.

HIGH NOMINAL POWER PLUS X

The RENNER S1200 is designed in parallel arrangement, which offers advantages in terms of space requirements and accessibility. The machine’s maximum performance exceeds that of the filler system by around 10 percent, so that any jams can be cleared quickly. Only reusable glass bottles are processed, which are each provided with a chest, belly and back label using a curve-controlled process: 0,5 l NRW, 0,33 l Euro (Giesinger bottle) and 0, l NRW, as well as Echovai (Vichy). A new 0.35 l bottle for Frucade is labelled using an inkjet printer due to the different best-before date application. An integrated control unit checks not only the best-before date and the crown caps, but also the presence and position of all the labels.

THE RIGHT DECISION

For Wasner, the close, solution-oriented and cooperative collaboration with RENNER in the design and implementation of the high-performance labelling machine contributed significantly in success of the overall project. “We made the right decision,” admits the Zwettl brewmaster. From now on, everyone will be able to see how quickly and smoothly production is running from the new visitor platform.

“After the positive experience of 23 years of service, RENNER was the only manufacturer we even considered.”
